Gavin Levinsohn
Managing Director, Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town

After graduating from UCT with a Bachelor of Business Science (Honours in Finance), Gavin decided he would make an average Asset Manager. Building on the positive comments from his Standard 3 Art Teacher, Gavin turned to the world of advertising. After getting rejected by 16 agencies in Cape Town he went to the AAA School of Advertising and received a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and Advertising. It worked and he was hired by the then fledgling agency, The Jupiter Drawing Room Cape Town as a Junior Account Executive. With the exception of a few cold months in London and a year in the Online Gaming Industry, Gavin spent the next decade at The Jupiter Drawing Room. He moved from Account Handling into Strategic Planning and ultimately became the agency’s Client Service Director serving on the Board.

In early 2006, Gavin exercised his entrepreneurial energy and formed his own advertising agency singh&sons. The agency grew from its four founding partners to 16 people in three years as they secured a roster of impressive clients including Distell, Prudential and Kia.

After three years, in late 2008 Gavin wanted back into the ‘big game’ and took the rare opportunity of joining Ogilvy & Mather South Africa as Managing Director of O&M Cape Town. With the support of Rob Hill, O&M SA’s COO and in partnership with Chris Gotz, O&M Cape Town’s Executive Creative Director, Gavin has successfully led the storied Cape Town agency for four years. It is currently the largest agency in Cape Town, the 3rd largest in South Africa and is the number 1 ranked Creative agency. Gavin has worked on several financial services brands in his career including Sanlam, Sanlam Investment Management, Old Mutual FundsNet, Prudential and BOE. When he’s not working he’s doting over his 5 month old daughter, learning to be an amateur boxer or reading.
